Identification of intermediates in the photosubstitution of [(η-C5H5)Fe(CO)2]2, using time-resolved I.R. spectroscopy: reaction kinetics of [(η-C5H5)2Fe2(µ-CO)3] with acetonitrile and phosphines

Abstract

Using time-resolved i.r. spectroscopy on a 10 µs time-scale, [(η-C5H5)2Fe2(µ-CO)3](C) has been identified as the principal intermediate in photosubstitution of [(η-C5H5)Fe(CO)2]2 and the activation parameters have been measured for the reaction of (C) with PBun3, PPh3, and MeCN in cyclohexane solution; (C) does not react with P(o-tolyl)3 or tetrahydrofuran.
