Identification and molecular structure of the eighteen-vertex macropolyhedral diplatinaoctadecaborane [(PMe2Ph)2Pt2B16H15(C6H4Me)(PMe2Ph)]

Abstract

The cluster structure of the novel conjuncto macropolyhedral species [(PMe2Ph)2Pt2B16H15(C6H4Me)(PMe2Ph)], isolated in low yield from the brief thermolysis of [(PMe2Ph)2PtB8H12] in boiling toluene, consists of a closo-{Pt2B10} subcluster and a nido-{Pt2B7} subcluster fused via a common {Pt2B} closed triangular face; a p-tolyl residue, originating from the solvent, is bound to the {Pt2B10} subcluster.
