Upon the electronic structure of the µ-oxo-bis[pentachlororuthenate(IV)] anion and the non-existence of caesium µ-oxo-bis[pentabromoruthenate(IV)]
Abstract
The electronic absorption spectrum of [Ru2OCl10]4– in a room-temperature ionic liquid shows three discrete bands in the near-i.r. region due to electronic transitions associated with the π(Ru–O-Ru) skeleton; claims of the synthesis of Cs4[Ru2OBr10] have been demonstrated to be in error (the reported products being mixtures of Cs3[Ru2Br9] and CsBr), and the detailed structure of [Ru2Br9]3–[r(RuRu)= 0.287 nm] is reported for the first time.
