Structures of the ring-opened oxidation products from meso-tetraphenylporphyrin

Abstract

The products formed by chemical, or photochemical, oxidation of meso-tetraphenylporphyrin, or its metal complexes, are now shown to have the novel violinoid structure (3)(rather than a biliverdinoid structure) as shown by spectroscopic and 13C-labelling studies.
