Polarographic determination of conjugated dienes in hydrogenation products of pyrolysed gasoline

Abstract

A polarographic method is presented for the determination of the diene values of pyrolysed gasoline and its distillation and hydrogenation fractions. Styrene derivatives can be distinguished from other conjugated dienes. The results are in agreement with those from gas chromatographic methods, whereas the method using maleic anhydride shown a significant negative error. The relationship of the polarographic method with the UOP 326-65 method has also been studied and an expression for the actual diene values has been found. The polarographic method is faster and more precise than earlier methods, and has been shown to be reproducible.
