Volume magnetic susceptibilities from nuclear magnetic resonance chemical-shift studies of heterogeneously dispersed liquids

Abstract

It is demonstrated that the measurement of n.m.r. chemical shifts for organic liquids contained first in their pure state in conventional n.m.r. sample tubes, and then dispersed heterogeneously in a reference material in the same tubes, enables the determination of their volume magnetic susceptibilities. The values so deduced correlate well with the literature values and indicate that the new method may afford a rapid method of determining magnetic susceptibilities that on average can be expected to be within 1% of the values deduced by traditional procedures.
