Laser intracavity absorption spectroscopy of He2(a3Σ +u)

Abstract

Ro-vibrational lines of the 0–0 and 1–1 bands of He2(3Σ+u) have been observed by time-resolved laser intracavity absorption in the afterglow of a He discharge in the range 2–160 mbar. The metastable He2 population is made up of two coexisting and quasithermalized ensembles with a temperature difference of up to 1700 K.
