Apparent molar volumes for aqueous solutions of the homologous series of α-dodecyl-ω-hydroxypoly(oxyethylene) surfactants, C12EOj(j= 4, 5, 6, 8 and 12), and of C10EO6

Abstract

Apparent molar volume data for aqueous solutions of the series of α-dodecyl-ω-hydroxypoly(oxyethylene) surfactants, C12EOj(j= 4, 5, 6, 8 and 12), and of C10EO6 are reported in the temperature range 0–70 °C. Theories of dilute solutions are applied to solute–solvent interactions assuming a rigid-particle model for the repulsive potential. Trends in the temperature dependence of the attraction are expressed in terms of the square-well potential for the micelle–water interaction and related to the dehydration of the micelles.
