Methyltin hydrides in fluorosulphuric acid
Abstract
Stannane or the methylstannanes SnMe4–nHn(n= 1–4) react in fluorosulphuric acid at low temperature (–90°C) to produce SnMe3–nHn+(n= O–3) and 1H, 13C, and 119Sn n.m.r. spectroscopy have been used in their characterisation. Hydrogen-evolution, 119Sn n.m.r., and Mossbauer evidence is presented to show that at higher temperatures these species decompose to Sn2+, Sn2+ plus SnMe22+ and SnMe22+ depending on the starting hydride.
