A series of trans-dioxo-osmium(VI) complexes [OsO2X2L2] and [OsO2X2(L–L)][X = Cl or Br; L = SMe2; L–L = MeSCH2CH2SMe, o-C6H4(SMe)2, MeSeCH2CH2SeMe, or o-C6H4(PPh2)-(SMe)] have been prepared from OsO4 and the ligands in ethanol–HX solution. The complexes have been characterised by i.r., electronic, and 1H n.m.r. spectroscopy.
