Synthesis and characterization of oxomolybdate clusters containing co-ordinatively bound diazenido units. The crystal and molecular structure of the octanuclear oxomolybdate (NHEt3)2(NBu4)2[Mo8O20(NNPh)6]

Abstract

Treatment of α-(NR4)4[Mo8O26] with an excess of phenylhdrazine in ethanol and fractional crystallization yielded a tetranuclear species, [Mo4O8(OEt)2(NNph)4]2–, with bridging ethoxy groups, and an octanuclear complex, [Mo8O20(NNPh)6]4–, structurally related to the α-[Mo8O26]4– precursor, as determined by X-ray crystallography; the structure of the Mo8 precursor is reported.
