Autoxidation of the imine prepared from 4-phenanthylamine and isobutyraldehyde gave a chemiluminescent hydroperoxide; comparison of the chemiluminescence of the imine with the peroxide gave strong evidence for the formerly postulated mechanism of the chemiluminescent reaction of imines.
