The reduction of chloroalkanes by alkali metals: a model ab intio study

Abstract

Model calculations using the 6-31 + G* basis set suggest that, in contrast to the situation for the isolated chloromethane radical anion in condensed phases, there is a barrier to the dissociation of ion paired MeCl˙ into a methyl radical and a chloride ion.
