An unusual CuII-promoted desulphurisation of thiourea: synthesis and crystal structure of di-µ-hydrogencyanamido(1–)-bis[(N,N′,N″-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane)copper(II)] di-perchlorate monohydrate

Abstract

The complex [Cu2(C9H21N3)2(µ-HNCN)2](ClO4)2·H2O has been synthesized by reaction of [Cu(C9H21N3)(H2O)2]2+ with thiourea in the presence of oxygen in aqueous solution with concomitant formation of elemental sulphur; the complex has been characterized by X-ray crystallography, showing that two CuII centers are connecter via two bridging hydrogencyanamido(1–) ligands.
