The synthesis and structure of a new type of bridged hydrido-aluminate complex: 1,2;1,2;2,3;2,3-tetra-µ-hydrido-1,1,1,2,3,3,3-heptahydrido-1,1,1,3,3,3-hexakis(trimethylphosphine)-1,3-ditunsten(IV)-2-aluminium

Abstract

The reaction of WCl4(PMe3)3 with LiAlH4 in diethyl ether followed by subsequent addition of Me2N(CH2)2NMe2 yields the right yellow complex (Me3P)3H3W(µ-H)2Al(H)(µ-H)2WH3(PMe3)3 whose structure has been determined by X-ray crystallography and complex magnetic resonance spectroscopy; the complex is the first alumino polyhydride with a formally AlH52– bridge.
