Photoluminescence study of the dehydroxylation of magnesium hydroxide
Abstract
Photoluminescent and photoexcitation spectroscopy have been used to characterize the thermal decomposition of Mg(OH)2 powders to MgO and to study the subsequent dehydration of activated MgO powders. Spectral features attributable to OH– ions in states of low coordination have been observed. The response of these species to outgassing and to exposure to H2O vapour has been followed using luminescence techniques.
