An example of acetaldehyde bridging two metal atoms. Synthesis and the X-ray crystal structure of Mo2(CO)4(µ,η2-MeCHO)(η-C5H5)2

Abstract

The reaction of [Mo2(CO)4(µ,η2-MeCO)(η-C5H5)2][BF4] with LiEt3BH and of [Mo(CO)22-MeCHO)(η-C5H5)] with [C7H7][BF4] or [Mo(CO)3(C7H7)][BF4] or [Mo(CO)3(η-C5H5)][BF4] or CH2Cl2 have as common product the bridging acetaldehyde complex Mo2(CO)4(µ,η2-MeCHO)(η-C5H5)2 which is the subject of an X-ray crystallographic study.
