Protonation of 2,7-di-t-butylthiepines. The first observation of homothiopyrylium ions

Abstract

The protonated species, generated from 2,7-di-t-butylthiepine and its 4-methyl and 4,5-dimethyl derivatives with fluorosulphuric acid–SO2 and /or concentrated sulphuric acid, have been shown by 1H n.m.r. examination to possess homothiopyrylium ion structures.
