Synthesis and characterization of an unusual tetranuclear rhodium complex; X-ray molecular structure of [Rh4(µ-Cl)2(µ-az)2(µ-CO)2(CO)2(nbd)2](az = 7-azaindolate; nbd = norborna-2,5-diene)

Abstract

The complex [RhCl(nbd)(Haz)](nbd = norborna-2,5-diene, Haz = 7-azaindole) reacts with [Rh(acac)(CO)2](acac = MeCOCHCOMe) to give the tetranuclear compound [Rh4(µ-Cl)2(µ-az)2(µ-CO)2(CO)2(nbd)2], whose structure, determined by an X-ray analysis, contains a novel planar Rh4Cl2framework and two directly bonded rhodium atoms with different electronic environments.
