Colloidal particles of Δ-Ni(phen)32+–montmorillonite(phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) act as asymmetric templates in the reactions (i) Co2+ with 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol to from an optically active CoIIIcomplex and (ii)the reduction of benzil with NaBH4 to (S,S)-1,2-diphenylethane-1,2-diol.
