Reversed-phase extraction chromatographic separation of tin with trioctylphosphine oxide
Abstract
Tin was separated by extraction chromatography with trioctylphosphine oxide as the stationary phase on a column of silica gel from 2 M hydrochloric acid. The separation of tin from a large number of elements in binary mixtures was carried out by exploiting the differences in their extractability with trioctylphosphine oxide at various acidities of hydrochloric acid. It was possible to separate tin from multi-component mixtures by utilising the differences in concentrations of mineral acids, with which they were stripped out of the trioctylphosphine oxide phase on the column. The method was extended to the determination of tin in white and gun metal.
