Formation of surface states on strontium oxide powders
Abstract
A detailed study of the formation of the oxide surface has been carried out by following the evolution of the various components of the photoluminescence spectra at successive stages of the thermal pretreatment of the samples. Different sets of ions in low coordination on the surface are correlated to specific bands in the emission as well as in the excitation spectra. At 300 K, the results are consistent with energy transfer from the surface sites in high coordination to those in low coordination.
