Magnetic exchange interactions in perovskite solid solutions. Part 2. Iron-57 and 151 Eu Mössbauer spectra of EuFe1–xCrxO3(O < X < 1)

Abstract

The 151Eu and 57Fe Mössbauer resonances have been used to study magnetic exchange interactions in the orthorhombic perovskite solid solution EuFe1–xCrxO3(O < x < 1). The supertransferred hyperfine field (s.t.h.f,) at 57Fe due to a Cr3+ nearest-neighbour cation has the same sign as that due to Fe3+, and the observed reduction in the flux density of the s.t.h.f. when Cr3+ replaces Fe3+ is 0.82 ± 0.02 T extrapolated to 0 K. The flux density of the molecular exchange field at Eu3+ due to a Cr3+ ion has the same sign as that due to Fe3+.
