Photoinitiated polymerization of N-vinylcarbazole in the presence of benzoyl peroxide. Part 2.—Initiating transients
Abstract
Microsecond flash-photolysis studies indicate that in benzene solution N-vinylcarbazole in its first excited singlet state sensitizes the formation of benzoyloxy radicals from benzoyl peroxide, whilst in dichloromethane solution a ground-state complex of N-vinylcarbazole and the peroxide undergoes charge-transfer excitation leading to N-vinylcarbazole radical-cation/benzoyl peroxide radical-anion pairs.
