The salt [X]2[Os10C(CO)24][X =(Ph3P)2N, Ph3MeP, or Ph4As] reacts with NOBF4in MeCN to give [X][Os10C(CO)24(µ2-NO)] which undergoes rearrangement and CO loss in Solution to give [X][Os10C(CO)23NO]; the structures of the salts [(Ph3P)2N][Os10C(CO)24(µ-NO)] and [(Ph3P)2N][Os10C(CO)23(NO)] have been established by single crystal X-ray analysis.
