On the space group of zeolite-A

Abstract

In the cubic (space group Fm3c) form of dehydrated Na-A zeolite, the Si,Al ordering, determined by neutron diffraction (Rietveld profile analysis) and 29Si (magic-angle spinning) n.m.r. spectroscopy, is shown to be 4 : 0 (i.e. each Si is tetrahedrally co-ordinated, via oxygen bridges, to four Al); this reaffirms earlier X-ray results.
