The infrared vibrational assignment for the µ2-bridging methylene ligand in metal cluster complexes and its comparison with frequencies assigned to CH2 species chemisorbed on metal surfaces

Abstract

The infrared spectra of the metal cluster complexes (µ2-H)2Os3(CO)10(µ2-CH2) and Os3(CO)10(µ2-CO)(µ2-CH2) have been measured and assignments made of those vibrational modes which are associated with the methylene ligands; a comparison is made with frequencies earlier reported for this species adsorbed on W (110) and Ni (111) surfaces.
