Spectrophotometric determination of trace amounts of molybdenum with 1,4-dihydroxyphthalimide dithiosemicarbazone
Abstract
1,4-Dihydroxyphthalimide dithiosemicarbazone reacts with molybdenum(VI) to produce a yellow 1:1 complex in acidic dimethylformamide-water solution. The yellow complex can be extracted into isopentyl alcohol (λmax.= 435 nm; ε= 9.4 × 103 l mol–1 cm–1) and used for the spectrophotometric determination of trace amounts of molybdenum in the range 10–95 µg. The interferences of many metallic ions have been examined and a sensitive and selective method for the determination of molybdenum is proposed.
