Structural analysis of molten PbCl2

Abstract

The structure of molten PbCl2 has been re-examined by X-ray diffraction analysis. In molten PbCl2, each Pb atom is surrounded by three Cl atoms at an average distance of 2.63 Å as well as four Cl atoms of 3.14 Å. The average Pb—Pb interaction within 10 Å is similar to a distorted f.c.c. arrangement.
