Behaviour of cyclo-octatetraene- and cycloheptatriene-tricarbonyliron under olefin-metathesis conditions

Abstract

The two title complexes with free double bonds have been used as substrates in the olefin-metathesis reaction. The reaction with [Fe(cot)(CO)3] produces a dimeric complex with a new pentacyclic carbon skeleton; that with [Fe(cht)(CO)3] leads to the dimeric compound tetracarbonylbis(cycloheptadienyl)di-iron, whose stereochemistry is discussed.
