The new, title organosulphur π-donor and its bistetrafluoroborate have been synthesised from 2,6-diphenyl-2,3-dihydrothiopyran-4-one via the key intermediate 1,2-bis(2,6-diphenyl-2H-thiopyran-4-yl)ethyne.
