Reaction of [Os5(CO)15H2] with acetylenes; X-ray crystal structures of [Os5(CO)15H2(CCPh)] and [Os5(CO)13(PhCCPh)2]

Abstract

The dihydrido-cluster [Os5(CO)15H2] reacts with R1C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CR2[R1= H, R2= Ph; R1= R2= Ph] to produce a number of acetylenic cluster complexes based on the Os5 unit, two of which have been characterised spectroscopically and by single crystal X-ray analyses as [Os5(CO)15H2(CCPh)] and [Os5(CO)13(PhCCPh)2], containing a ‘wing-tip bridged butterfly’ and an ‘edge-bridged buterfly’ metal framework, respectively.
