Reactions of CFCl studied by laser-induced fluorescence

Abstract

CFCl radicals were generated in a discharge-flow system by the reaction of atomic oxygen with CF2CFCl. Their decay along the flow tube was monitored by fluorescence excited with 386 nm radiation from a dye laser pumped by an N2 laser. Rate coefficients for reactions of CFCl were measured at temperatures between 298 and 358 K. The following values were obtained, in units of cm3 molecule–1 s–1: O, (2.9 ± 1.2)× 10–12 at 298 K; CFCl, 1.3 × 10–13 at 298 K; O2, < 2.5 × 10–16 at 333 K; NO, (1.38 ± 0.10)× 10–15 at 333 K; NO2, (2.85 ± 0.22)× 10–15 at 333 K; Cl2, (7.9 ± 0.3)× 10–13 exp(–547 ± 10/T); Br2, (9.6 ± 2.4)× 10–13 exp(–943 ± 82/T); CF2CFCl, < 10–15 at 298 K.
