Ultrasonic relaxation of surfactants in water and deuterium oxide solutions
Abstract
The relaxation spectra associated with solutions of sodium octyl sulphate, decyltrimethyl-ammonium bromide and caesium perfluoro-octanoate in both water and deuterium oxide have been measured using ultrasonic absorption techniques. The data for the monomer–micelle exchange process have been analysed in terms of current theories and the effect of solvent discussed. At high surfactant concentrations a second relaxation process is observed.
