Atomization energies of complex gaseous yttrium carbides

Abstract

The atomization energies, D°0,a, of the new molecules YC3, YC5 and YC6 have been determined by Knudsen cell mass spectrometry as 1805 ± 30, 3081 ± 35 and 3781 ± 60 kJ mol–1, respectively. The trends observed in the atomization energies for polyatomic yttrium carbides follow those of the polyatomic carbon molecules with equal numbers of atoms.
