New method of separation of the viscosity B-coefficient of the Jones–Dole equation into ionic contributions for non-aqueous electrolyte solutions
Abstract
A new method is proposed for the resolution of the viscosity B-coefficient of the Jones–Dole equation into ionic components for electrolyte solutions in organic solvents. The method was based on the assumption of the unsolvation of large tetra-alkylammonium cations in organic solvents. For the calculation of ionic B-coefficients, extrapolation of the function [graphic omitted] =a+br3R4N+ to zero cation radius was used. The ionic B-coefficients at different temperatures in several organic solvents have been calculated. The relationship between B-coefficients of large tetra-alkylammonium ions and the intrinsic solvent structure was examined. In methanol and N-methylformamide solutions, the [graphic omitted] values for large tetra-alkylammonium cations are conditioned only by the Einstein effect. In N-methylacetamide and N-methylpropionamide solutions, the effects related to the destruction of solvent structure in the region of the ionic cosphere are significant together with the Einstein effect.
