Thermal decomposition of solid chromium(III) tris-N-benzoyl-N-phenylhydroxylamine

Abstract

The thermal decomposition of the CrIII tris-N-benzoyl-N-phenylhydroxylamine chelate, Cr(BPHA)3, has been investigated using radiometric methods by labelling the complex with 51Cr. The decomposition is found to occur in the temperature range 160–180°C, according to an autocatalytic process. Kinetic models are discussed which should account for the experimental evidence.
