Complexation of a pyridinium salt by a 3,5-bridged dihydropyridine crown ether with formation of a charge-transfer complex

Abstract

A charge-transfer complex is formed between a 3,5-dicarboxy-1,4-dihydropyridine bridged across the 3,5-positions with a hexaethylene glycol chain and 1-methyl-3,5-diethoxycarbonylpyridinium perchlorate, which is encapsulated in the cavity of the macrocycle.
