Coupling reactions between 4-nitrobenzenediazonium chloride and N-ethylcarbazole or NN-diphenylamine in aqueous media are accelerated by using a two-phase water–dichloromethane system containing sodium 4-dodecylbenzenesulphonate as a transfer catalyst for the diazonium ion.
