Preparation of some 1,2,3,5-dithiadiazolium chlorides from trichlorocyclotrithiazene and nitriles or olefins, and from amidinium salts and sulphur dichloride

Abstract

1,2,3,5-Dithiadiazolium chlorides [RCN2S2]Cl have been prepared by treating trichlorocyclotrithiazene [trithiazyl trichloride (NSCI)3] with (i) tetrachloroethylene to give [Cl3C·CN2S2]Cl or (ii) nitriles RCN (R = Cl3C and Ph). 4-Phenyl-1,2,3,5-dithiadiazolium chloride has also been prepared from the amidinium salt [PhC(NH2)2]Cl and sulphur dichloride. Structures and possible mechanisms of formation are discussed.
