Solubility of octacosane and hexatriacontane in different n-alkane solvents

Abstract

The solubilities of octacosane in decane and dodecane and of hexatriacontane in hexane, octane, decane and dodecane in the temperature interval 11–38°C have been determined, and the standard enthalpies and entropies of solution, ΔHd and ΔSd, have been calculated from the solubility curves. For hexatriacontane ΔHd increases by 5.5 kJ mol–1 on passing from heptane via octane to decane as solvent. This shows the importance of local solution properties overlooked in current theories.
