Chemisorption of carbon monoxide and hydrogen on AgNa mordenite

Abstract

It has been established, with the help of volumetric, i.r. and mass spectroscopic methods, that silver mordenites are capable of chemisorbing hydrogen and carbon monoxide.

The silver ions in the large pores chemisorb one CO molecule, while only a quarter of them can retain hydrogen molecules. This amount corresponds to the occupancy of site VI. Hydrogen is also slowly chemisorbed in the side pockets of the structure in a similar way. A model for the chemisorption site is proposed.
