Hydrido-complexes of molybdenum and tungsten with isonitrile and carbyne-type ligands

Abstract

Addition of acids, HX (X = BF4, FSO3, HSO4, ClSO3, Cl, or Br) to the complexes trans-[M(CNR)2(dppe)2](A)(M = Mo or W; R = Me, But, Ph, or C6H4Me-p; dppe = Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2) under carefully controlled conditions has given the hydride complexes [MH(CNR)2(dppe)2][X](B) and the hydrido-carbyne complexes [MH{CN(H)R}(CNR)(dppe)2][X]2(C). The i.r. and n.m.r. spectra of (B) and (C) are discussed with regard to their structures and compared with those of related complexes. A detailed analysis of the 31P spectra of these complexes and of trans-[WH(N2)2(dppe)2][HCl2] is also given.
