Abnormal elimination reactions of 3β,17β-diacetoxy-5β,6β-epoxyandrostan-7β-ol
Abstract
Reaction of 3β,17β-diacetoxy-5β,6β-epoxyandrostan-7β-ol with phosphorus oxychloride affords 3β,17β-diacetoxyandrost-5-en-7-one whilst with methanesulphonyl chloride–sulphur dioxide it gives 17β-acetoxy-3β-methylsulphonyloxyandrost-5-en-7-one. Normal products are obtained with the epimeric 5α,6α-epoxy-7α-ols and in the absence of a 3β-substituent.
