Lattice model for aqueous solutions of non-electrolytes
Abstract
A lattice model for fluid water, with molecules having four tetrahedrally directed bonding arms, is modified by introducing a solute. Thermodynamic functions for equilibrium states are found by means of a generalized first-order statistical approximation based on a group of four sites. Results obtained for the model are compared with properties of aqueous solutions of non-polar gases and liquids; they include the effect of solute on the structure of the liquid and on the temperature of maximum density, enthalpies and entropies of solution and phase phenomena.
