Pure rotational Raman spectrum of XeF2

Abstract

The pure rotational Raman spectrum of XeF2 has been recorded photographically with a reciporcal linear discpersion of 1.4 cm–1 mm–1 and analysed to yield the following values of the rotational constants and bond length : B0= 0.113 27 ± 0.000 01 cm–1; 108D0= 2.1 ± 0.2 cm–1; r0= 197.91 ± 0.01 pm.

These B0 and r0 values are much more precise than earlier infrared values. The B0 values does not overlap with the earlier infrared value and possible reasons for this discrepancy are discussed.
