Bis(tetra-n-butylammonium) tetrakis[bentenethiolato-µ3-selenido-iron], an iron–selenium cubic cluster compound

Abstract

The compound [Fe4Se4(SPh)4]2– has been prepared in good yield from benzenethiol, FeCl3, and elementary selenium. Its spectroscopic and redox properties are very similar to those of the corresponding sulphido-compound [Fe4S4(SPh)4]2–, and it is concluded thai it too contains a cubatie-like nucleus
