Complexes of platinum(II) with 2,2′-bipyrimidine: the effect of hydrogen bonding on intermetallic interactions

Abstract

Platinum(II) complexes with 2,2′-bipyrimidine, [PtX2(bipym)](X = CN, Cl, or SCN; X2= C2O4), [Pt(bipym)2]-[PtX4](X = Cl or CN), and [Pt2(NH3)4(bipym)][NO3]4, have been synthesised and characterised. Intense absorption bands in the visible region assigned to metal–metal interactions are related to strong hydrogen bonding involving the unco-ordinated heterocyclic nitrogen atoms.
