Methyl(phenylthio)keten reacts with olefins and imines to yield α-(phenylthio)cyclobutanone and α-(phenylthio)azetidin-2-one derivatives which can be converted into α-methylenecyclobutanone and α-methylenazetidin-2-one derivatives, respectively.
