Remarks on phase shifts studies of Hg2 formation and decay in the presence of nitrogen

Abstract

It has been shown that the phase shift method applied to comparison of decay spectra of Hg2 fluorescent 4850 and 3350 Å bands which are not purely exponential may lead to an erroneous evaluation of measured “effective” life times. Different models of the Hg2 formation and decay mechanism are discussed.
